Yoga as medicine

As a yoga teacher I have been surprised to realize that most of my students don’t consider yoga as a solution to their health problems.

I believe we need to question the efficiency of drugs and nowadays medicine. It is obviously what seems the easy way. But it is also the consumerist and expensive way.

Once you start a treatment, is it meant to end? Or is it simply meant to be a regular treatment for which you pay regularly? Is your status to some people only the one of a consumer?

Wether you choose or not to ask those questions I believe that yoga is the true solution. Yoga has the unique ability to awaken you to your true potential. Thorough regular practice of yoga not only that your body’s health improves but also and foremost your consciousness.

Which means that you begin to become the master of your life, you are not its victim anymore. Although you do not need to do yoga to reach such states of  consciousness, the practice of yoga is specifically designed for this purpose.

As you become the master of your life, if you wish to lose weight for example, you are able to consciously and willingly reduce the amount of the food you eat , change your diet…

This is just an example, but the truth is that once your consciousness of your abilities grows you begin to realize that the impossible is possible!

Yoga has the ability to provide you al the health and well-being you need.

Geeta Iyengar the author of “Yoga a gem vor women” is a great example of this, when she was a child  she suffered from diverse disease, which lead her to be under a very long list of drugs.  When she was 10 years old, her father B.K.S Iyengar, a Yogicharya, gave her the following ultimatum: whether you stop taking your medicine and prepare to die, or you start to practice yoga. She started her yoga practice the next day, and she got better, the doctor told her to keep on taking her medicine, she kept on practicing yoga.

So is yoga a solution to your illness whatever that is? Try it, enjoy it, practice it , master it, and see for yourself!

En tant que prof de yoga j’ai ete surprise de realiser que mes eleves ne considerent pas le yoga comme une solution serieuse a leur problemes de  sante.

Je pense qu’il est important de questionner l’efficacite des medicament, et de la medecine d’aujourdhui. Apparement cela resemble a une solution facile. Mais c’est aussi chere et base sur l’idee de consommation.

Une fois le traitement commence est-il sense prendre fin? Ou est-il concus specialement pour une consommation repetee et reguliere? Votre statut n’est-il pas pour cette industrie celui d’un simple consommateur?

Que vous decidiez ou non de vous poser ces questions, je croit personellement que le Yoga est une veritable solution. Yoga a la possibilite de vous eveiller a votre reel nature. Grace a la pratique reguliere de Yoga, non seuleument votre sante physique s’ameliore mais aussi et surtout votre niveau de conscience.

Ce qui signifie que vous devenez le maitre de votre vie, vous ne la subissez pas, vous la vivez. Bien que vous n’ayez pas besoins de pratiquer du yoga pour atteindre de tel niveau de conscience, le Yoga est concus specialement dans ce but.

Alors que vous devenez le maitre de votre vie, si vous desirez perdre du poid par example, vous devenez capable de consciement reduire les quantite de nourriture que vous mangez, changer votre regime alimentaire…

Ceci n’est qun example, en realite un fois que vous vous eveillez a vos possibilite, vous realisez que l’impossible est possible.

Le Yoga a la capacite de vous offrir sante et bien-etre general.

Geeta Iyengar l’auteur de “yoga a gem for women” demontre ceci tres bien, lorsqu’elle etait jeune elle soufrait de diverse maladies, ce qui l’amena a suivre une longue liste de medication. A l’age de 10 ans , son pere Yogicharya B.K.S Iyengar, lui lancat l’ultimatum suivant, ou elle arreter les medicament et se preparer a mourir ou bien elle commencait a pratiquer regulierement du Yoga. Elle commenca a pratiquer du Yoga le lendemain, sa situation s’amelioree, le docteur lui disait de continuer a prendre les medicaments, elle continuait a faire du yoga!

Donc le yoga est-il la solution a votre maladie quelqu’elle soit? Essayez-le, prenez-y plaisir, devenez-en le maitre, et voyez par vous meme!
